What is the spirituality of Chinese Kungfu and Japanese Samurais?
When i watch Japanese films, they don't give a clear idea about their spirituality. Chinese film shows Buddhist deities in their films , here and there. But then Who are Taoist ?|||Embracing the Way, you become embraced;
Breathing gently, you become newborn;
Clearing your mind, you become clear;
Nurturing your children, you become impartial;
Opening your heart, you become accepted;
Accepting the world, you embrace the Way.
Bearing and nurturing,
Creating but not owning,
Giving without demanding,
This is harmony.
To reduce someone's influence, first expand it;
To reduce someone's force, first increase it;
To overthrow someone, first exalt them;
To take from someone, first give to them.
This is the subtlety by which the weak overcome the strong:
Fish should not leave their depths,
And swords should not leave their scabbards.
One of the schools of ancient Chinese martial arts was Wudang, whose founder was a Taoist priest (the martial arts form was Taiji). The above passages is from Tao Te Jing. Its essence is to be in harmony with nature. Most martial arts (kungfu) practitioners would seek strengthening the mind (spirituality) and body, and undertake kungfu as a form of self-defense.
Bushido - meaning Way of the Warrior (Japanese). Early bushido literature further enforces the requirement to conduct oneself with calmness, fairness, justice, and propriety. The relationship between learning and the way of the warrior is clearly articulated, one being a natural partner to the other. Bushido, while exhibiting the influence of Tao through Zen Buddhism (upholding the moral and psychological development of a warrior and ethical standards), is a philosophy in contradistinction to religious belief, with a deep commitment to propriety in this world for propriety's sake.|||kung fu can be anything, but the Shaolin monks are buddhists. Some forms of kung fu are more Taoist in nature.
The Samurai were a mixture of shintoism and buddhism.|||Samurai were Shinto.|||Try google IP man
