What is kungfu and what do you do?

what's kungfu?

what do you do when you practice it?

what kind of moves do you do that helps u defend urself?|||Kung Fu is the general term that refers to all Chinese martial arts. It is also pronounced "gong fu" in the southern provinces (China is united through written language, not spoken!). The actual translation would roughly be "work", or "hard work", so it is not a very good label! I actually prefer to use the term "Chinese Boxing", and another answerer mentioned "Shaolin Boxing", which I suppose could be appropriate as well, but gives the impression of being directly related to Shaolin.

Stance training, conditioning drills, weapons (long-range, mid-range, short-range, and projectile), striking, kicks, grappling, in-fighting, ground-fighting, and various types of stretches are all incorporated in training. The moves are many and varied.|||Kung fu was a T.V. program!

Kong Fu is a Chinese martial art, join a club and find out.|||Chinese martial art..art of fighting..|||Kung Fu is properly called Shaolin Boxing. It was introduced to China by the Buddhist Monk Boddidarma around 1500 years ago. It is a striking art %26amp; has influenced all the other Asian striking arts.|||Arso wittle asshopper Kung Fu was a tv show starring david carredeine(dont ask me if thats spelt right)and if you take the burning pot and hold it to your stomach you will know all and when your burns heal you'll have 3 prfectly formed tatoos 2 on you forearms and 1 on your guts.practise he didn't need any.defence?he didnt need to defend himself.he was so tough he could'nt even wear jeans because they would rust.he was so tough even chuck norris would pass out at the sight of him.what do you really think happened to bruce lee?DC was so tough BL took one look at him and dropped dead.

Or were you talking about the martial art?|||Kung fu is a very generic term for Chinese Martial Arts. There are a variety of styles, with a variety of different training methods. I study Shaolin Kung Fu, and we have a system of kicks, punches, forms, etc. Most Kung Fu systems ephasize circular blocks and stright punches and kicks.|||Kung fu is a collective term for chinese martial arts that really literally means just "hard work" which can be applied to other martial arts as well.

what do I do when I practice it is I learn techniques and drill them against a fully resisting opponent, what most CMA schools do is something that looks more like ballroom dancing than fighting.

what kind of moves? We learn how to generate power from the legs, hips shoulders and arms in order to better hurt our opponent with, however most cma and most karate schools "unlearn" this and instead choose to limit thier power by not including one or more of these in thier general punching techniques. That is why boxers traditionally have more hand power, because many martial arts make you dumber. CMA is notorious for this as good schools that train realistically is hard to find. Unless you live in a big city your chances of finding a pink flying elephant that farts dixie are higher than finding a good cma school in a rural (boonies or styx) area.|||there're several great answers here (unfortunately with the regards to Kung Fu the TV show, {eye roll} )

it is a collective term that encompasses many different Northern and Southern disciplines that range from "hard" to "soft" techniques. Many others come from families that've learned several disciplines and created another.

among the most well known disciplines are Wu Shu, Wing Chun, and Tai Chi.

you use defenses such as blocking and counter attacking the opponent using your own ability to strike using the hand, arm, elbow, foot, knee, shin, etc.

In many Martial Arts (not just Kung Fu), you can use evading (or sidestepping) to use the opponent's momentum from a strike for a better position for a counterstrike, jumping kick techniques (which are heavily used in several Korean disciplines) throws, grabs or grappling and joint locks and manipulations.

but it's all in defending yourself against the opponent with as minimal injury especially to yourself or your opponent to end the encounter as quickly as possible.
