I am 25 yr old whom is interested in taking kungfu. what"s my chances of being good at starting late in life?

I have never really been that athletic and i have no exp. Im kinda chubby but i think i can be very dedicated. So is it realistic for me me to believe in a few years i can do all the flips and tricks or even compete.|||To give you an honest and realistic answer, starting as an adult, the only disadvantage you have is in stretching. But the good news is, there are so many different types of kungfu you can choose from.

Usually kungfu styles that originated from northern part of China involves a lot of kicking (thus requires some level of flexibility on your legs). This is because northern Chinese are generally taller than the southern Chinese so their kungfu styles use more kicks to take advantage of their longer reach. So try to find a southern Chinese kungfu style, where the emphasis is more on the hand techniques.

Find more info on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_mar鈥?/a>|||You are 25 so you are still very young, as long as you are willing to consistently practice and train (run, weight training, stretching) you should be able to do anything you want to.|||Late in life. What you fail to realize is that you are not far beyond being a kid. I don't meant that as a putdown. Life is a perspective. We all have our ways of viewing life and ourselves. From your perspective you are getting old. I'm 55 and still training and teaching martial arts. I have had many students begin their training that were twice your age. They all did well. Go to it!|||I don't specifically know about Kungfu, but i started practicing Katori Shinto Ryu myself about 6 months ago, i'm 23

I do believe you can get "good" at a martial art in couple of years with enough practice.

Most teachers will let you take a lesson for free to see if you like it, i would suggest trying it out and ask the teacher about this.|||Kung Fu can be learned at all ages,, the only thing that will be difficult for you is your flexibility which you need to watch after since you've already gone through puberty, the problem is is that Kung Fu is ment to be learned quickly, but people need money and slow down the process to keep yu in training longer and if your as dedicated as you say you are, you wont be able to truly unlock all your potentials learning from these commercialized Kung Fu teachers, if you are really serious you must find a real Kung Fu Sifu/Master, and Kung Fu is ment to be free flowing and perpetual, not many can teach the art properly, fortionatly i have found a true master, and i am 15 i just started, the best thing you can ever do to elevate yourself, good luck,|||i will tell you something. Bruce Lee was very good at fighting and he started out very young. I know some good fighters that started in there 20's you are never to old to start. It is better to start when you are 25 then never.|||Here is a clip of someone much older than you demonstrating what is possible when you learn to develop your chi;

This sort of ability takes years (if not decades), to develop. So you aren't too old, you have a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow in the martial arts...
