What is with the kungfu robot in "Mission to Mars"?

The movie had so much potential, well if it had been made in the 80's) and then they for no reason had the robot go apesh** and start doing frakin kungfu on people, how stupid was that, I mean did the cgi guys just say "hey lets f' this movie up"?|||100% correct!
